THE Bus

ADA Service

Complimentary Service to the THE Bus

Information

ADA is the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The ADA transportation service allows residents to live more independently, take control over their life, and participate fully and productively in our community. The ADA transportation service complements the existing public transportation service, THE Bus. ADA services are for residents who live within 3/4 mile on either side of the fixed route system, but are unable to access the fixed route transit system due to a disability. To utilize this service, ADA eligible riders will need to have a current ADA Eligibility Photo Identification Card which shows eligibility.

ADA Service Information

  • ADA Para-Transit Service is a shared ride service. You will be traveling with other passengers.
  • Origins and destinations need to be within 3/4 mile on either side of the fixed route system.
  • In order to utilize the ADA Service, you must obtain an ADA Eligibility Photo Identification Card.
  • The Center for Independent Living processes all ADA Para-Transit applications. Call the center at 1(877)232-8261 to schedule an appointment for certification or obtain more information.
  • Trans-Hernando, Para-Transit provides and schedules the appointments for the ADA Transportation Service. To schedule an appointment, call (352)796-8520 one day prior to your trip and during office hours, Monday-Friday, 8:00AM to 5:00PM.
  • Each scheduled trip must have an appointment time and destination address.
  • Scheduled pickup times can be scheduled between 6:00AM and 6:00PM (depending on service area), with guaranteed delivery times starting at 7:00AM and ending at 7:00PM (depending on service area). All ADA trips have a one-hour pickup window.
  • If you have multiple appointments in one day, you can only schedule them in one-hour intervals. If you are dropped off at 11:00AM at the grocery store, the earliest you may be picked up is 12:00PM.
  • ADA eligible riders will pay $2.00 per trip on Trans-Hernando Para-Transit vans. The correct fare will be required at the time of each trip.
  • ADA card holders will be able to ride THE Bus for FREE. ADA riders just need to show their ADA Eligibility Photo Identification Card to the driver every time they ride THE Bus.
  • ADA eligible visitors in Hernando County, that have been determined ADA eligible by another transit or public agency, will be able to use their ADA Eligibility Identification Card while visiting Hernando County. Visitors will need to provide proof of eligibility prior to using the ADA service.
